How We Met
Patrick and Emma met as graduate students at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. After being friends and then roommates for a few years, they began dating in May of 2016. In August of 2019, Patrick surprised Emma by proposing at the international terminal of the San Francisco Airport just before departing for Italy. They now live in beautiful Cole Valley, SF with their cat Fredo.
Where to Stay
There are lots of options throughout San Francisco and in neighboring cities as well to fit any budget. Some of our favorite neighborhoods include Cole Valley, Haight-Ashbury, NOPA/the Western Addition, and Hayes Valley, to get you started with your AirBnB/vacation rental search. A majority of the hotels in the city are located in Union Square/Downtown SF, but are easily accessible by public transportation. While we are not reserving rooms in any specific hotel, we are happy to help with location recommendations if needed!
Things to do in San Francisco
One of our favorite things about San Francisco is how natural beauty is woven into every corner of the city. You can hardly walk five blocks without coming across another park or green space! Both Golden Gate Park and the Presidio offer a whole afternoon or more's worth of exploring, and we heartily recommend them both. But there are many smaller parks throughout the city that can offer respite from an urban trek. Some of our personal favorites include Alta Plaza Park, Alamo Square, Mount Davidson, Buena Vista Park, Fort Funston, Land's End (including the wonderful Legion of Honor museum), and Mount Sutro Reserve. If you are staying in SF for a few days surrounding our wedding, we encourage you to pack a picnic and spend an afternoon enjoying one of these beautiful spaces!
If you are looking for indoor activities, SF offers many wonderful art museums, including SFMoMA, the deYoung Museum, and the Legion of Honor. We love catching an old movie (and pre-movie organ performance) at the historic Castro Theatre, which shows old and obscure films just about daily. If you are traveling with children, the California Academy of Sciences and the Exploratorium both offer hands-on fun for the entire family.
And of course, SF has many renowned sightseeing attractions, such as Golden Gate Bridge, the Cable Cars, and Chinatown. If you find yourself at the tourist trap that is Fisherman's Wharf, please do yourself a favor and check out the Museé Méchinique at least.

Getting Around
SF MUNI's light rail and bus system is a great way to get around San Francisco. If you are visiting the city for the first time or simply not comfortable with public transportation, many hotels offer parking accommodations and parking at AirBnBs in neighborhoods is possible, but may be difficult depending on where you are looking to stay.
For getting to and from the wedding ceremony, we recommend using a car riding app such as Lyft or Uber for convenience. There will be limited parking in Stern Grove by the Trocadero Club House which will be reserved for catering, staff, and people with disabilities. Street parking is available just outside of Stern Grove with a small, but steep walk down into the Grove.

UPDATE: After 6 years working for the SF Symphony, Emma is embarking in a new role as Operations Manager for the SF Ballet! Unfortunately, we cannot do our original 3-week galavant through European Christmas markets in December/January, but we are so excited to spend our honeymoon in Sicily, Italy in early November instead!
